Back Abdij Groenmarkt, Middelburg

Bronze sculpture of a male standing figure, his arms reaching out towards the sky meaning a cry for freedom.

The memorial commemorates the Middelburg citizens who became victim of the German occupation during 1940-1944. Underneath the pedestal a cylinder has been incorporated with a scroll containing the names of those fellow citizens who perished during World War II.

Note: At the court yard of the Abbey of Middelburg three plaques are to be found, referring to the victims of World War II.
