Back Blekerijstraat, Roeselare

This monument commemorates Helena Korn, an Austrian Jew who fled to Antwerp with her family in 1939. Her son and husband were picked up at the outbreak of war, but Helena escaped to Roeselare. There, out of despair, she committed suicide on 17 May 1940, because no one would help her.
