Raversyde-Atlantikwall

Back Nieuwpoortsesteenweg 636, Oostende

In Raversyde visitors can walk through First and Second World War trenches and bunkers. From World War II you can see naval shore battery Saltzwedel Neu (later called Tirpitz), with command, artillery, observation, personnel, flanking and storage bunkers, etc. The battery is exceptionally well preserved and offers a unique view of the evolution of the Atlantic Wall, the German coastal defence system designed to resist an allied seaborne invasion. The site is also where you will find the living quarters of the Bensberg Base, where the military engineers lived. They were responsible for organising bunker construction.
