Plaquette Bruinisse

This plaque at the Port of Refuge, unveiled on 3 September 2008 by Canadian war veterans commemorates the deployment of the soldiers of the Canadian Armoured Regiment and the British Columbia Regiment in the liberation of the area around Bergen op Zoom and the liberation of the village of Bruinisse in 1944. In the process three German warships were sunk in the Bruse Port of Refuge and a fourth ship was seriously damaged.


De plaquette is onderdeel van de wandelroute Bevrijdingspad Zeeland, een 130 km. lang pad langs monumenten en bezienswaardigheden die herinneren aan de gebeurtenissen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Ter herdenking aan het tot zinken brengen van vier Duitse marine mijnenvegers in de haven van Zijpe, Nederland op 06 november 1944 door het 28th Canadian Armoured Regiment (British Columbia Regiment) en het Lake Superior Regiment (motor) 4th Canadian Armoured Division, 1st Canadian Army. En de voortdurende vriendschap van de mensen van Nederland en Canada. Toegewijd ter gelegenheid van het bezoek van de The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught`s Own) Association 03 september 2008.
