EAST DEREHAM, PILLBOXBack Norwich Road, East Dereham, Norfolk
Type 22 pillbox, originally forming part of Nodal Point Defence.
- Year of construction
- Protected status
This Type 22 pillbox (a regular hexagon in plan) is included here as it is a typical survival and is representative of a much larger group of monuments. Originally this pillbox formed part of the defences of East Dereham, which was a designated ‘Nodal Point’ with the purpose of holding up any German advance. The embrasures are blocked up and this example survives due to its location in the former railway yard and its use by the Royal British Legion as a memorial, who are responsible for its restoration.
